Our Story

Since 2003, Applause Catering+Events has been voted Best Caterer nine different times by Grand Rapids Magazine. Founded in 1989, Applause has evolved into a full service catering and event design company with an unrivaled list of services from At Home Catering to Weddings, Corporate Events, Event Design and Barbeque Boys. No detail is too small or too complex for our experienced team of experts. Applause has served a wide range of clients from heads of corporations to many very happy brides and cater to each one with the same level of outstanding service. Our own Event Facility will accommodate up to three-hundred and fifty guests. Bridgewater Place,our beautiful downtown venue overlooking the Grand River with scenic views of Grand Rapids,will host your plated or buffet event for two hundred guests and can accommodate over three hundred for a strolling reception or cocktail party.We have partnerships with all the exclusive venues in West Michigan and can cater to all these locations as well as many others in the area. 

Our goal is to provide you a one-of-a-kind experience that leaves a smile on your face by providing warm customer service, custom made menus, delightful culinary treats, breath taking venues, creative table presentation and extending VIP treatment to all guests and clients. Stephanie A. McIntyre

Sales + Event Designer

Stephanie has twenty-eight years experience in the restaurant, catering and customer service industries, sixteen of those in event design and sales. She has designed and executed complete events for two to twelve hundred guests, including corporate holiday parties, milestone events, wedding receptions, benefits for non-profit organizations, food service for major sporting events, and elaborate theme parties. Stephanie has an interdisciplinary degree in communication (Bachelor of Arts) from Aquinas College. Her event planning skills have given her the opportunity to participate in a volunteer capacity for many community events. She was the co-race director for two years and a volunteer committee member for three years for Pietro’s “Run Fasta Eat Pasta” 5K. Stephanie’s vision and impeccable attention to detail have earned the acclaim of many respected institutions in West Michigan.

Kyle Balkema

Sales + Event Designer

A Rockford Michigan native, Kyle brings a unique talent to the Applause Catering + Events Sales Team, combining his passion for excellence in customer service, a genuine concern for clients’ needs, and a commitment to making every event a success. Kyle has management experience in many areas of the catering/restaurant business; from leading the front-of-the-house of an exclusive French bistro to overseeing a banquet center which hosts many large upscale events. He has catered numerous weddings, ranging in size from fewer than fifty guests to over five hundred guests. He has the ability and organizational skills to plan and execute corporate events of all sizes, private in-home celebrations, wine and beer tastings, and coordinate any meeting, golf outing or conference. His creative touch will make your event a memorable success. Kyle loves all aspects of food and beverage current trends and promises that your event will exceed your expectations.
